Tokyo Institute of Technology TIT (東京 工業, Tōkyō Kōgyō Daigaku, informally Tokyo Tech, Tokodai or TIT) is a national research university located in the greater Tokyo area, Japan. Tokyo Tech is the largest higher education institution in Japan dedicated to science and technology, and is one of the first five designated national universities and selected as the best university for a global university project by the Japanese government. It is generally considered one of the most prestigious universities in Japan.

Tokyo Tech’s main campus is located in Ōokayama on the border of Meguro and Ota, with its main entrance facing Ōokayama Station. Other campuses are located in Suzukakedai and Tamachi. Tokyo Tech is organized into 6 schools, where there are more than 40 departments and research centers. Tokyo Tech enrolled 4,734 undergraduate students and 1,464 graduate students in 2015-2016. Tokyo Tech is ranked 2nd among Japanese universities according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2024. In the field of engineering “Japanese Universities Entry Ranking – Engineering Department” by Score-navi. In another ranking, Japanese Middle School Kawaijuku Tokyo Tech ranked it fourth best (overall), 2-3 best in the previous semester and first in the last semester (engineering department) in Japan (2012).

According to the QS World University Rankings, Tokyo Tech was ranked 3rd in Japan and 20th globally in engineering and technology, and 51st in natural sciences in 2011. The university was ranked 31st in the world by the World University Rankings [31] and 57th in 2011 according to the World University Rankings [31] QS World University, was also ranked 31st in the world according to the 2009 World University Rankings.

About the Tokyo Institute of Technology TIT Scholarship

Tokyo Institute of Technology and RIKEN have come together to give eligible international students the opportunity to pursue a Ph.D. by awarding participants to the RIKEN International Program for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Applicants who wish to pursue a PhD degree program at Tokyo Institute of Technology in Nanomaterials and Bionanomaterials are eligible to receive this application. International applicants must have a relevant Bachelor’s and Master’s degree.

Terms and Standards

To be eligible, aspirants must meet the specified criteria:

  • international students
  • Students must be registered and accepted into the university.
  • Students must have enrolled in a program starting in September.

Features of the Tokyo Institute of Technology TIT Scholarship

The scholarship includes the following features:

  • Tuition fee waiver
  • Tokyo Institute of Technology and RIKEN will provide selected applicants with a cash benefit in the form of a living expenses of JPY 5,200.
  • Also, provide a housing allowance
  • Plus one round-trip airfare for up to three years of study.
