About the University of Miami

The University of Miami (informally referred to as UM, UMiami, or U of M) is a private research university in Coral Gables, Florida. The university enrolled 17,811 students in 2019 at 12 separate colleges/schools, including the Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine in the region Miami Health, a law school on its main campus, and Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences focus on the study of oceanography and atmospheric sciences at Virginia Key, with research facilities at a Richmond facility in southern Miami-Dade County.

The university offers 132 undergraduate programs, 148 master’s programs, and 67 doctoral degree programs, of which 63 are research/grant programs and four professional fields of study.

The university’s students have over the years represented all 50 states and nearly 150 foreign countries. With more than 16,000 full- and part-time faculty and staff, UM is one of the top ten educational institutions in Miami-Dade County. UM’s main campus in Coral Gables includes 239 acres and more than 5.7 million square feet of buildings.

UM is rated “R1: Doctoral Universities – Very High Research Activity.” UM’s research expenditures in fiscal year 2019 were $358.9 million. UM offers a large library system of more than 3.9 million volumes and exceptional holdings in Cuban heritage and music.

UM also offers a wide range of student activities, including fraternities, sororities, a student newspaper, and a radio station. Intercollegiate athletic teams compete in UM, known collectively as the Miami Hurricanes.

University of Miami Scholarships

The University of Miami offers the Stamps Scholarship for undergraduate students which is the most prestigious scholarship available to students at the University of Miami.

Features of the University of Miami Scholarships

• The scholarship covers tuition fees for four years of undergraduate study at the University of Miami.
• The scholarship also includes:

1. On-campus housing.
2. Provide meals.
3. University health insurance.
4. Textbooks.
5. An amount of money to get a laptop (laptop).
6. Access to $12,000 in funding that can be used for study abroad, undergraduate research, unpaid internships, conferences, leadership development, and other educational purposes mutually agreed upon by the University of Miami and the Foundation Stamps Family Charitable.
7. Other additional benefits of a Stamps Scholarship include being part of the Stamps Scholars on campus and national communities, receiving funding to support academic and scientific research projects, cultural and leadership programs, study abroad and other regional conferences, invitations to events, and online networking opportunities.

Standards and Conditions

• You must be enrolled in one of the University of Miami’s full-time programs with a minimum of 12 credits during each fall and spring semesters for a minimum of 24 credits per academic year.
• A minimum 3.0 GPA must be maintained for the academic year at the University of Miami beginning at the end of the student’s second semester.
• The scholarship is subject to review pending receipt of any bursary, scholarship, prepaid tuition fee and/or housing assistance unexpected at the time the scholarship was issued.

Selection process

• Shortlisted candidates for the Stamps Scholarship will be invited to participate in the University of Miami Scholarships Weekend in the spring.
• Candidates will meet with University of Miami faculty and current scholars and learn more about interest-based education during the two-day weekend program.
• After the weekend, the selection committee determines the final candidates to nominate for the scholarship based on the students’ overall achievements and performance over the weekend.
• Finalists participate in an additional interview with the Stamps Family Charitable Foundation.

Documents required to apply for the scholarship

• High school transcript.
• ACT and/or SAT scores. Students may:

1. Request to send the official results to the university directly from the body responsible for the test.
2. Submit the scores themselves in the Common Application. You don’t need to recalculate your score. Simply enter your score exactly as you received it. Students will only be required to submit official score reports if they are accepted.

• School report.
• Letters of Recommendation: Two letters of recommendation are required: one from the high school guidance counselor and one from the teacher.
• Please complete the supplemental application and submit your portfolio, and/or schedule a test if you are applying to any of the following programmes:

1. Bachelor of Architecture – Portfolio submission required if ACT/SAT scores are not submitted
2. Supplementary request.
3. Frost School of Music – aptitude test required.
4. Health Professions Orientation Program (HPM) – A supplementary application is required.
5. Theater Arts BFA – A supplementary application is required.
6. Dual Degree Programs – A supplementary application is required.

• Educational Activities: If you had a gap of three months or more during your educational career or from the time you graduated from high school to your intended date of enrollment at the University of Miami, you must submit a Statement of Educational Activities explaining the reason for the gap(s) and including the dates.

How to Apply for the University of Miami Scholarships

To apply for the scholarship, you must apply to study at the University of Miami by filling in this application by clicking here and you will be automatically transferred for the scholarship.

When applying, you will be required to pay a $70 non-refundable application fee.
